By Raksana – Sydney Family Photographer at The Blissful Lens
As a parent, you know how fast time flies—first steps turn into school runs, and suddenly your little ones aren’t so little anymore.
A family photoshoot is a beautiful way to press pause and capture this season, just as it is. At The Blissful Lens, I specialise in relaxed, connection-focused family photography across Sydney, and I’m here to make your experience fun, stress-free and truly memorable.
Here’s everything you need to know to prepare for your family photo session in Sydney.
From sunny beaches to leafy parks or the comfort of your own home, the right location helps everyone feel relaxed and at ease. I’ll guide you based on your family’s personality and the kind of images you love.
Popular family photography locations in Sydney:
Centennial Park, Parramatta Park, Fagan Park, Mount Wilson – open space and golden light
Balmoral Beach – calm, beautiful and kid-friendly
The Rocks or Observatory Hill – city meets nature
In-home sessions – perfect for newborns or cozy moments
As your Sydney family photographer, I always scout kid-friendly locations with good light, space to move, and minimal crowds.
Coordinating doesn’t mean matching—soft tones, neutral colours, and natural fabrics work best. The goal is to feel like yourselves, not overly styled.
What works well:
✔ Flowy dresses, linen shirts, knits
✔ Earthy or pastel colour palettes
✔ No logos, cartoon prints or clashing patterns
✔ Layers and textures for variety
✔ One spare outfit for little ones (just in case!)
Need help choosing? I’ll send you a simple family outfit guide after booking to make things easy.
It’s totally normal for kids to run around, make funny faces or get distracted. That’s part of the magic. I approach every session with patience and flexibility, capturing real moments between the chaos—because those often become your favourite photos.
There’s no pressure to “perform.” If your child needs a cuddle, a break, or a snack—we roll with it.
Here’s what I recommend bringing along:
🧃 Water + non-messy snacks
🧸 Favourite toy or comfort item
🧻 Wipes or tissues
🧺 A light blanket (for sitting shots)
👒 Hats or spare hair ties (if windy)
Timing matters—especially with kids. I’ll help you pick the best time depending on your family’s routine, energy levels and the location.
Golden hour (the hour before sunset) is amazing for soft, glowy light, but mid-morning can also work well for little ones.
The best time for your shoot is when your kids are happiest and most rested. I always plan around that.
You don’t need to “look perfect” or force smiles. This is about capturing the real stuff—your hugs, giggles, cuddles, and the beautiful chaos of family life.
I’ll gently guide you when needed, but the magic often happens when you forget the camera is even there.
As a family photographer in Sydney, my job isn’t just to take pretty pictures—it’s to capture the love and connection you share with your children in an honest, timeless way.
Your session should feel like a fun family outing, not a photoshoot. So breathe, enjoy the time together, and let me handle the rest.
